I know it isn’t summer, but it was a beautiful sunny spring day and I couldn’t resist the urge to continue exploring the wineries in Niagara. Today it was the 13th Street Winery and I wasn’t disappointed. The winery and tasting bar are located in this beautifully renovated turn of the century farmhouse.
The owner has a passion for art and has created a lovely gallery where original Canadian art is exhibited. On my visit there were some beautiful paintings by Ken Cosgrove on display.
There were also some wonderful sculptures by Karoly Veress. As lovely as anything you might expect to see at the Art Gallery of Ontario (in my opinion…better).
The gardens also contain sculptures and I can image that in the summer months it would be so nice to walk in the garden and have a bit of lunch and a glass of wine served on the large porch.
There is also a bakery and gift shop. They bake pies with local fruit in season (for take out or eating there), there are some good locally made cheeses and they make their own jams and other condiments with local produce.
Everyone I spoke with was pleasant and cheerful, and made me really want to go back – which I most certainly will do as soon as the weather is warm enough to sit outside. I highly recommend that you do the same if you have the opportunity to visit our lovely Niagara!
